Wizards Report January 11

Posted on January 16, 2013 by

Happy New Year! Okay 2013 is eleven days old, but for the Washington Wizards it probably feels like a new beginning. For Saturday’s game against the Atalanta Hawks at Verizon Center, John Wall and Trevor Booker could return from knee injuries.

It is positive news for the Wizards in a week which started with Monday’s dramatic win over Oklahoma City. Wall has been out all season and Bookerhas not played since November 19.

Here is today’s Wizards Report:

Like Wall, the Wizards have missed Booker.

Trevor Booker:

Trevor Booker

  • Last season: Ranked #50 in the NBA in Offensive Rebounds (119); career high 8 offensive rebounds vs LA Lakers 3/7/12, 11 defensive rebounds vs Miami 2/10/12 and 17 total rebounds vs LA Lakers 3/7/12
  • College: Only player in ACC history with 1,500 points, 1,000 rebounds, 200 blocks, 200 assists and 100 steals
  • Booker combines strength with speed and skill. At the NBA pre-draft combine in Chicago, Booker finished second to Luke Harangody in bench-pressing and turned heads when he turned in a time of 3.10 in the three-quarters-court dash.  Booker’s time was just ahead of John Wall’s 3.14 and is a source of playful disputes between the two teammates.
  • Booker also impressed the pre-draft combine attendees with a vertical leap of 36 inches which was tied for ninth out of about 40 prospects.  So at 6’7”, Booker uses that leap to play above his height.  That ability has certainly been on display when he has actually thrown-down put-back dunks over players who had position on him.

Team President Ernie Grunfeld:

“He has been very good at doing what we are asking him to do. We are not asking him to score, but he helps there too when he rebounds.  He is not intimidated by anything and he competes every single night.”
