The Wizards entered Tuesday night's Draft Lottery with just a 12.3 percent chance of landing one of the top 3 spots in the 2013 Draft.  They needed some good fortune from the lottery gods and that's just what they got.

The ping pong balls worked in their favor on Tuesday night, as they wound up with the #3 pick, jumping five spots from their #8 spot.  Afterward, Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld indicated that Cleveland actually won both the #1 and #3 picks, but by rule after being awarded the #1 pick the rest of their ping pong combinations were no longer in play.  The next pick was the Wizards combo and they wound up with the pick.

Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld:

On landing #3 pick:

"We’re just really happy right now that we could move up 5 spots.  Next year our goal is to make the playoffs, and I think that will still be our goal."

On bringing in draft prospects:

"We'll still bring in a lot of players but maybe not as many as we would have."

On who the pick may be:

"There's no question we'll add a quality player, and we'll continue to do our work and continue the process of evaluating, but obviously we're in a better position now than an hour ago."

On what position they may address at #3:

"In this league players win, no matter what position they play. We'll evaluate and we'll see who's available and we'll take the best player that we feel will help us in both the short term and the long term."

Now the Wizards have a little over a month to evaluate the talent, but some of the top names in this year's draft class include Kentucky's Nerlens Noel, Kansas' Ben McLemore, Georgetown's Otto Porter, Indiana's Victor Oladipo, Michigan's Trey Burke, and Maryland's Alex Len.

Many will be in for draft workouts at Verizon Center, so stay tuned to both MonumentalNetwork.com and WashingtonWizards.com for all of the latest leading up to the draft.
