Greetings from Chicago, where I am currently sitting courtside at the final shootaround of the season. Hard to believe tonight will be the last game of the year, but the time has come to wrap up the 2012-13 campaign and to start putting the focus on the future.
While there may be nothing tangible for the Wizards to play for tonight, it would be nice to snap a couple of losing streaks and end the year on a high note. The Wizards have dropped their last seven games on the road and their last five overall. A win tonight would end both of those streaks and give the Wizards their first 30-win season since 2007-08.
The Wiz opened the year hampered with injuries and lost their first 12 games. They are now in a similar spot, both injury-wise and on a losing streak; but in between we saw a lot of positives that give hope for the future. Nobody likes to play the "what if" game, but what if this team did not have so many injuries to so many of their key guys? That's a question we will hopefully be able to answer next season when a healthy John Wall, Bradley Beal and Nene are the centerpieces to a team that should make a bid for a playoff spot.
For now, we will watch some of the young guys like Trevor Booker, Kevin Seraphin, Jan Vesely and Chris Singleton get one more crack at a win when they play the Bulls later tonight. After that, we officially head to the off-season and start gearing up for the 2013 NBA Draft.
Shootaround is coming to an end, have to run and go grab a Chicago-style hot dog for lunch and then get ready for the game tonight.
We'll see you in the Live Chat on WashingtonWizards.com
