Brazil: 4-1 in group play, defeated Argentina in round of 16, lost to Serbia in quarterfinals

September 10th Update

Just a week ago, Brazil comfortably beat Serbia in group play. In the quarterfinals, it was a different story as Serbia routed Brazil by 28 points to advance to the semifinals. Brazil really struggled offensively, shooting 33% from the field and could not contain guard Milos Teodosic who went for 23 points. Nene, Varejao and Splitter combined to shoot just 7-25 from the field. Nene finished the game with four points, four rebounds and two blocks. Serbia advances to face either France or Spain.
September 7th Update
Nene: 7p, 4r, 4a, 2b
Argentina, FIBA's third ranked team in the world, went up early but Brazil stormed back in the second half to post a surprising 20 point blowout win over the favored Argentinians. Argentina was on fire from outside early but as they went cold from the outside, Brazil began to pound them on the interior and the Argentinians simply could not keep up. The win propels Brazil into a quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday with Serbia, who defeated Greece by 18 points in the round of 16. Nene contributed 7 points on 3/4 shooting, 4 boards, and 4 assists over his 19 minutes of work off the bench.
September 4th Update
Nene: 7p, 2r, 2a
Brazil cruised against Egypt, opening up a 27 point lead by the end of the first quarter and they would never look back, eventually winning by a staggering 63 points. Brazil improved to 4-1 at the conclusion of group play and will finish second in Group A. Nene was rested for much of the contest, playing sparingly in the second half and finished with 7 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists.
Brazil's next game will probably come on Sunday, September 7th against the third place team from Group B, which is Argentina.
September 3rd Update
Nene: 7p, 2r, 2bl
Brazil built themselves a big lead in the first half, but Serbia would fight back in the third quarter, outscoring the Brazilians 32-12 and taking a four point lead into the fourth. The Brazilians took command of the game again in the final frame and would hang on for an 81-73 victory to improve to 3-1 in group play. Nene finished with seven points, two rebounds and two blocks.
Brazil concludes group play Thursday morning (9:30am/et) against Egypt.
September 2nd Update
Nene is currently competing in Spain with the Brazilian National Team at the 2014 FIBA World Cup.
Through three games, Brazil has gone 2-1, with wins over France and Iran and a loss to Spain.
They play Serbia on Wednesday (12pm/et) and then Egypt on Thursday (9:30am/et) to conclude group play.
24 teams are split into four groups of six.
Brazil is competing in Group A and the top four teams from each of the four groups will advance to the round of 16.
Teams earn two points for a win and one point for a loss.
Brazil is currently in a three-way tie for second place in their group with five points. Click for standings
