2014-15 Schedule Notes

WashingtonWizards.com's staff broke down the 2014-15 Wizards schedule...

5 Games You Can't Miss at Verizon Center:

Nov 21: Cleveland at Washington
The Return of the King.... In case you've been living under a rock all summer, LeBron is once again a Cleveland Cavalier. The #WizCavs rivalry should heat up in a hurry and no game during the 2014-15 season will be more anticipated than the return of James to Verizon Center as a Cav.  It was James' Cavs who ousted the Wizards from the playoffs three years in a row (2006-2008) and the way these two teams are loading up their rosters, they very well could meet again at some point in April or May when the playoffs roll around.   But first, they meet a week before Thanksgiving at Verizon Center in front of what is sure to be a sold-out crowd.

Dec 23: Chicago at Washington
Rematch of 2014 First Round... What better way to gear up for the holidays than a rematch of last year's first round playoff matchup!  The one big difference this time around is the Bulls anticipate having a healthy D Rose, which makes them a much more dynamic team.  They surely will not have forgotten the beating they endured in last season's playoffs, as the Wizards dismantled them in five games including winning all three in Chicago.  This will be must-see TV and a real treat before the holidays.

Jan 13: San Antonio at Washington
Welcome the Defending Champs.... The defending champion San Antonio Spurs make their way to Verizon Center on this Tuesday night in the middle of January.  The Wiz have had their struggles with the Spurs in the past, but now with playoff experience of their own under their belt, no team will seem unbeatable.

Jan 21: Oklahoma City at Washington
KD Returns Home... Another game that always brings out a raucous atmosphere, the Thunder make their way to the nation's capital on a Wednesday night in the middle of January.  It's always a special game for Kevin Durant, as he grew up just down the road in PG County, Maryland and has close ties to this area.  The fact that the Thunder are contenders every year doesn't hurt either, making this a sure sell-out at Verizon Center.

Mar 29: Houston at Washington
Rocket Power... The regular season will be winding down at this point, but that doesn't mean there won't be fast-paced action and maybe a little drama at Verizon Center.  The Rockets are the last Western Conference team to visit Verizon Center this season and this game will have special meaning for a few reasons.  The first, it will be the return of Trevor Ariza to the building, a guy that played a huge part in the Wizards run to the playoffs a year ago.  It will also be a matchup of two former teammates, as Dwight Howard and Marcin Gortat square off in a battle of the bigs.  Last season when Houston came to town, there was plenty of drama, first from the "leak delay" and then from the near miraculous comeback from the Wizards.   The Rockets walked away with the win a year ago, but the Wiz will look for redemption on this Sunday night at the end of March.

Season Opener:

Oct 29: Washington at Miami
The Wizards kick off the 2014-15 season on the road in sunny Florida as they take on a different looking Miami Heat team than the one we've grown used to.  While Miami has been in four straight NBA Finals, they'll be missing a guy that played a huge role in making that possible.  LeBron James bolted from the Heat to return home to the Cavaliers, opening up the Eastern Conference.  The Heat retained both Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, along with adding Luol Deng to the squad so they'll be no pushover, but without James they suddenly seem vulnerable and the Wizards will look to jump on them right out of the gate.

Home Opener:

Nov 1: Milwaukee at Washington
The Wizards will kick off their home slate against the Milwaukee Bucks as they look to build a home identity in 2014-15.  The Bucks finished with the worst record of any team in 2013-14, but for whatever reason they gave the Wizards trouble.  They also added Jabari Parker in this year's draft and look to be on the rise.  With that said, this will be a game the Wizards expect to win and will be a nice way to begin the 2014-15 home season.

Christmas Day:

Dec 25: Washington at New York
In what may be the unofficial way of the NBA saying 'you've made it', the Wizards will be one of ten teams to play on Christmas Day this year. They will kick things off with a noon start in New York against Carmelo and the Knicks. What could be better than finishing unwrapping presents and turning on a little #WizKnicks on the television.

MLK Jr. Day:

Jan 19: Philadelphia at Washington
In a day that is always special around the D.C. area, the Wizards will host the Philadelphia 76ers in a matinee on MLK Jr. Day in 2015.  There are always some special events that surround this game and it's one that has a deep meaning as it takes place just steps away from where King delivered his famous 'I Had a Dream' speech.
