Gortat Arrives, Takes Part in First Practice

Posted on October 28, 2013 by Jeremy Hyman

Marcin Gortat arrived in DC over the weekend and took part in his first practice as a member of the Wizards on Monday.

Both he and head coach Randy Wittman both agree that he now needs to get acclimated with the team and start building chemistry with his new teammates.  As many of the players will tell you, 90% of the league run the same plays, but it's the terminology and play calls that can differ from team to team. Those will be the things Gortat needs to pick up before Wednesday's opener in Detroit.

Wittman would not indicate whether or not Gortat would be in the starting lineup right off the bat, though many project him to be in there at the center spot.

He's a veteran in this league and a smart player so he should be able to pick up the new sets quickly.  It also helps that he stayed after practice ended today to run through some more of the offense with his teammates.

Watch Gortat's full interview with the media and hear about how he's adjusting to a new city, what his expectations are with the team, how he'll fit in with John Wall and Nene, and much more!

Also hear what head coach Randy Wittman had to say about having Gortat at practice and how he plans to use the big man.

The Wizards will practice tomorrow at 11am and then take off for Detroit where they open the season on Wednesday night vs. the Pistons.  Stay tuned to Monumental Network for more coverage throughout the week.
