On February 7th, many of the Wizards' players and staff joined world renowned chef Jose Andres at D.C. Central Kitchen in downtown Washington D.C.

In attendance were John Wall, Martell Webster, Kevin Seraphin, Jan Vesely, Chris Singleton, Garrett Temple, assistant coach Jerry Sichting, and VP of Basketball Administration Tommy Sheppard.

The mission for the day of giving was to prepare healthy meals for agencies that support the metropolitan area’s underserved community.

Famed Chef Jose Andrés assisted the Wizards with the meal preparations and gave out high remarks for the players' kitchen skills.

"I thought Webster had the best attitude and Wall showed the most improvement. But they all did a terrific job," said Chef Andrés. He also joked that because he's seen Wall's ability on the court, that he knew he had the skills to be a top chef.

Wall was not so sure about that.

"I've never cooked a day in my life, my mom didn't let me in the kitchen," said Wall.

For having no culinary background, Wall did show some natural ability with the knife and by the end of the session had his cutting down to a T.

The rest of the team followed suit and like they do on the court, relied upon each other to get the job done.

Kevin Seraphin and Martell Webster teamed up on the potatoes and had great chemistry in the kitchen. Seraphin would drain the water, Webster would receive the potatoes, and then deliver them into the tin.

Jan Vesely rotated around and also was a master with the knife. He just wanted to show his girl that he had skills in the kitchen.

There were plenty of laughs and the players seemed to have a great time preparing all of the food and learning from the great Chef Andrés. On top of that, it was for a great cause which made this a special day for everyone involved.

Here are some of the players favorite parts from the day:

  • Wall - "Learning how to cut from Chef Andres"
  • Seraphin - "Working the potatoes with Martell because he's so funny"
  • Webster - "Just the entire day, it was such a great thing to do"
  • Temple - "Learning how to cut the right way"
  • Vesely - "Cutting the peppers"
  • Singleton - "The whole thing was great"
