Wizards Arrive in DenverPosted on January 18, 2013 by
We just got into Denver earlier this afternoon and went right back to practice. It was tough to see the team lose the way they did last night in Sacramento. They had the lead nearly the entire game until the final seconds which is always a frustrating way to go down. There were a lot of positives to take from the game, it just would have been nice to have a win to show for it.
One of those positives was the backcourt play of both Bradley Beal and John Wall. This was just Wall’s third game back, but seeing him and Beal work off one another was a great glimpse into the future of this team. It was also nice to hear all of the players discussing the game in the postgame locker room rather then dwell on the loss. There is definitely a commitment to win here from the players and the coaches, now they just need to put it all together and show what they are capable of.
We are now in Denver (Thursday night) and waiting to take on the Nuggets on Friday night. The big storyline of the game will be the return of Nene, who spent his first nine and a half years here playing for the Nuggets. Just as Nene is friendly with almost everyone associated with the Wizards in D.C., he had many friends here in Denver as well. He greeted some after practice this afternoon and said he will see more tonight and tomorrow before the game begins.
To get Nene, the Wizards traded JaVale McGee who we will get to see play for the first time live tomorrow night. The Nuggets have a few different post players they rotate through, but seeing Nene and McGee go at it should be fun to watch.
Some other notes from practice: Trevor Booker and Jordan Crawford both went through practice and both could play tomorrow night vs. the Nuggets. Booker was activated for the Kings game, but did not play. Crawford did not dress, but if he feels good after shootaround tomorrow and can get his ankle loose before the game, he could make his return. It would be the first time all season the Wizards would have John Wall, Bradley Beal, and Jordan Crawford all active for a game.
We’ll have full gameday coverage tomorrow on WashingtonWizards.com including a Game Preview, a Fast Break with Dave Johnson, a Courtside Report with Nene, and On the Road with SB Nation. Remember to use #WizNuggets when tweeting about the game.Posted in: Sports
