8:06 AM....Dave Johnson checking in...It's here. It's here. The regular season begins tonight against the New Jersey Nets at Verizon Center. Again this is the place where we connect all season long.It remains to be seen if youth will be an advantage in this shortened season. The Wizards hope it will be. The Wizards are the fourth youngest team in the league and have eight players on their roster entering either their first or second years in the NBA. The Nets are coming off a 24-win season and have missed the playoffs the last four years. The slogan for the Nets is a catchy “Jersey Strong, Brooklyn Bound.” The Nets are playing one more year in Newark, before moving into a new arena in Brooklyn. It is a team with a clear destination off the court, but much more uncertain on the court.Point guard Deron Williams is in the final year of his contract. Williams was picked up in a trade with Utah last season, but a wrist injury limited him to only 12 games with the Nets. The matchup against Williams will challenge John Wall as he tries to limit his turnover number which was the second highest in the NBA last season. The Nets also were one of the team’s that made a push for Dwight Howard. Instead Brook Lopez, who led the Nets at 20.4 points per game last season, remains the man in the middle, but he is out for six weeks with a broken foot.
