Guards Taurean Green (Florida) and Jared Jordan (Marist), and big men Jason Smith (Colorado State) and center Larry Turner (Tennessee State) worked out for the Wizards on June 7th at Verizon Center. Assistant coach Wes Unseld and director of player development Harvey Grant joined team video coordinator H. Lynam and strength and condition coach Drew Cleary on the practice court floor to run the players through the pre-planned drills. The team's entire front office and coaching staff were all on hand for the session. "It was a good workout today," said Green. "The Wizards workout is a tough one, but it was good. It is a grind, you workout then you have to move on to the next city. It is a lot of working out and a lot of traveling so you have to make sure you get your rest." Smith, who is projected to be a mid-first round pick, was keen on the Wizards current situation when he spoke to the media following the workout. "They need a big man who is quick and agile. I think I fit the characteristics very well and I think I can help the Wizards out. I would love to play for the Wizards. They have a great team, great organization, and great players." The drills started mostly with individual drills followed by drills in a two-on-two format with a guard and big paired up together. For some of the players who work out for the Wizards and the other 29 NBA teams, the workouts are a formality. For other players it could mean the difference between playing in the NBA or going abroad/playing for a minor league. Jordan, who completed his senior season at Marist this past spring, understands the importance of a good showing. "I went to Orlando for the pre-draft camp and I had to go out and prove myself and show that I could play against higher competition. (Green) has played against the highest competition and performed well against the highest level on the biggest stage and that is why I have to prove myself and will continue to do so." The Wizards will conduct workouts for two groups of draft prospects on Friday. Derrick Byars (Vanderbilt), Javaris Crittenton (Georgia Tech), Nick Young (USC) and Sun Yue (China) will take part in the first session. The second session will feature Carl Elliot (George Washington), Jamon Gordon (Virginia Tech), Josh McRoberts (Duke) and Anthony Tolliver (Creighton)
